I've heard people say, listen, he's an out of the box thinker. He's a businessman. He's an entrepreneur. Like people that know you're probably a
Elon Musk
businessman. I wouldn't say.
Elon Musk
I'm not really a businessman. You're not a
Gayle King
businessman? No.
Elon Musk
I'm sure there's probably lots of analysts on Wall street who agree that I'm not a businessman.
Gayle King
Okay, well, what do you think you are?
Elon Musk
I'm an engineer.
Elon Musk
Yeah, like engineering and design.
Gayle King
But you're not a businessman.
Elon Musk
Well, I mean, I don't sort of like, look at things from like, what's the rank ordered list of priorities for based on a return on investment or something like that. I don't really do any investments. I mean, I only own one, Public Security, and that's Tesla. That's it. I have no diversity in terms of public securities.
Gayle King
I've heard you describe yourself as a technologist.
Elon Musk
Yes, exactly. Technologists make new technologies, create new technologies.
Gayle King
Is it your dream to conquer the world and make the world a better place? What is your dream?
Elon Musk
Technology is like magic, you know, I think technology is the closest thing to magic that we have in the real world. And so I think like engineering, creative engineering is essentially technology development. And I guess maybe when I was a kid, like Lord of the Rings is my favorite book. Yeah. I thought, what's the closest thing to being a wizard in the real world? And that's like creating new technologies.
