Also, if Tolkien were turning in his grave bc of ROP, it would be bc there was another adaptation at all, no matter what it was like. He hated every actual and proposed adaptation during his life and his son Christopher disliked all subsequent ones (including Peter Jackson's!)

Peter Jackson did excellent work with Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit was stretched too long for a short book.
