You must not be paying attention to what's happening right now. Russia let the AFU impale itself on fixed defenses. Now Russia is pressuring Ukrainian lines everywhere and taking back territory. They're doing it the slow, grinding, methodical, classically Russian way.

My advice several months ago was for Ukraine to prioritize defense, as whoever attacks entrenched positions will take heavy casualties, but they were pushed very hard by the West to attack.
