It is currently trivial to claim asylum, as no proof whatsoever is needed, nor is any proof of ID or other documents needed from their home country (they discard their docs shortly before crossing the US border).
We need to require ID, which they used to get to Mexico (almost none of the illegal immigrants are from Mexico), and at least some shred of proof that they risk death or imprisonment in their home country. That is what used to be needed.
