90% of Americans have air conditioning, compared to 19% of Europeans.
Europe had by one estimate 62,000 excess heat deaths in 2022, compared to around 1,700 in the US. I don't know if the measures are similar but high-end estimates for US don't go above 10-15K.
Europe is poor.

A basic air conditioner is very inexpensive and even electricity cost is low if just serving one or two rooms for part of the day for the summer months.
It’s a cultural thing.
