One experiment gave 1,000 people $1,000 a month for 3 years.
By the end of the study, UBI recipients ended up a little deeper in debt and had a LOWER net worth!

My comment about needing UBI is in the context of a future where we have robots that can do all manual labor, not present day.
In a good AI future, we will effectively have universal high income, not basic.
