Which is the greater crutch, the remote operator or the safety monitor?
Rodney Brooks claims Waymos aren't self-driving if there's an operator on standby.
Jeff Dean claims Robotaxis aren't self-driving if there's a passenger on standby.
These are both specious arguments.
Jeff Dean@JeffDean· Dec 9, 2025@CMantseris I don't think Tesla has anywhere near the volume of rider-only autonomous miles that Waymo has (96M for Waymo, as of today). The safety data is quite compelling for Waymo, as well.
