The ancient Egyptians had an incredible run of ~3000 years. Their æsthetic sensibilities and engineering were outstanding. The Great Pyramid remains a marvel even today!
They always worshipped the Sun as one of the gods, but Akhenaten created the first recorded monotheist religion with the Sun as sole god. The priests were very unhappy about this and tried to erase his existence.
