Since you talked about maybe incorporating the fins / landing legs like the Starship has on the booster, can we expect the booster to belly flop and bleed off velocity through atmosphere more effectively like Starship? Or will it come back engines first like F9?

Booster center of mass is much lower & more consistent (no payload mass to consider), so still biases towards engine first entry

Rocket booster temperatures won’t go much above 600 Kelvin on hottest parts of main body & maybe around 1200K on base, which uncooled steel can handle. Starship is around 1700K for a Mach 25 entry, so needs shielding of some kind.

Technically, the steel is radiatively cooled (not uncooled). T^4 is one of the most interesting things about reality!

If methane vapors are brought into the cavity between the inner outer skins and are discharged through the holes to meet the incident flow, a surface layer is created. The flow will interact with the layer, not with the skin. Protection of the Starship hopper guaranteed

How will the booster support its own (and Starship's) weight when it's unfueled? It won't have a chest-plate of sweaty 310S like the Starship will, right? Will it need some kind of back bone or internal structure to remain structurally stable when unpressurized?

Welded, internal, longitudinal hat stringers. To the degree it may need hoop stiffness (prob not), combine with slosh baffles.

Can you clear up the new naming scheme? Is Starship the whole system (and the upper stage) and the booster is super heavy? Is all up called Starship / Super Heavy? Is it Starship & Super Heavy and the whole thing is still called BFR??? 🤯

The Super Heavy booster is only needed on Earth, so think of this as just “Starship” & sometimes it needs a boost, hence Super Heavy

Design requires at least 170 metric tons of force. Engine reached 172 mT & 257 bar chamber pressure with warm propellant, which means 10% to 20% more with deep cryo.

Probably a really dumb question, but if the test of the rocket produces that much thrust how is it held in place during testing?

@elonmusk Ordered 2 model 3 Performance Editions. Set 3 times a new pick up date and final should be 16-02-2019. Today they called again if we please could pick uo the Cars in Tilburg Tesla factory. In a rush we arranged all, drove 2,5 hours for the 18PM timeslot.

Exactly. Both prices are shown right next to each other & lower price is *actually* the real apples to apples cost vs a fuel car. In fact, for many states in the US, it’s way better.

VAT of ~20% & import duties of ~10% usually result in a 30% higher cost in Europe
