100 years ago today, my grandfather Arkady Fridman was born. He fought bravely as a machine gunner against the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941.
I am here today because he survived. Most didn't.
His blood runs in my veins. I hope to make him proud.

My grandfather also fought in WW2. For ~6 years. All his friends were killed. Very severe PTSD.
His father died when he was young, so he had to drop out of high school and work to support his siblings, which meant he wasn’t eligible for the officer corps.
Towards the end of the war, they gave everyone an IQ test and he scored high, so they sent him to work for British Intelligence or he would probably be dead and I wouldn’t exist.
