When thinking about deep time, what is more astounding is to think about how much time is ahead!

Half a billion years ago, these trilobites died in a storm, travelling in the same tight formations
Their long spines touching to maintain a single row on their journey in the sea

Human civilization, as measured by the first writing, only began ~5000 years ago, so since those trilobites existed, you could have had all human history 100,000 times over again

Few seem to realize that China is leading the world in renewable energy generation and electric vehicles. Whatever you may think of China, this is simply a fact.

The decoupling of critic and audience scores for standup specials is a thing to behold

The “critics” seek not to critique, but rather to virtue signal. They are out of touch with the people and so lose their credibility with the people.

Why of all things is driving 2-ton machinery at 70mph the ONE of item in this list we've decided minors can handle?

None of these @Twitter limits are aligned with the goal of human-to-human interactions @elonmusk
Like 1 tweet every 36 seconds during 24 hours is not human behavior. Neither is changing your account's email address 4 times per hour.

You’d have to compress Earth to this size (9 mm) to form a black hole. You’d have to compress the sun to 3 km and the moon to 0.1 mm (width of a human hair) to turn them into black holes. For every black hole out there, something THAT intense has happened.

@elonmusk there is a bad bug with dashcam being unavailable - is there a fix in the works?
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · May 28, 2022
Problem arose from optimizing application performance. Use of Linux page cache caused increasing memory fragmentation, eventually preventing mounting of dashcam. Patch to filesystem driver fixes this. Update coming soon.

Betelgeuse is 642 light years away and we can easily see it with our naked eye. Which means it’s at the center of a vast sphere, thousands of light years across, entirely filled with its photons. Go anywhere in that sphere & look toward Betelgeuse & its photons will hit your eye.

Vanity Fair should be more worried about cleaning up its own attitudes toward misinformation/disinformation - see them below citing both the Alfa Bank hoax and the Steele hoax - than crawling up the backside of @substack: vanityfair.com/news/2016/11/i…
VANITY FAIR@VanityFair· May 23, 2022Substack is on a mission to fix a broken discourse. But its laissez-faire attitude about content moderation has put the company on the front lines of the culture wars—will it be enough to derail their ambitions?

My takeaways from Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial:
1. Fame is one hell of a drug (for some).
2. Psychiatrists & lawyers come in drastically varying levels of skill.
3. Lying to millions of people is something humans are capable of.
4. Love can be messy.
5. Mega pint of wine.
