If somebody commits violent crimes, there is clearly something wrong with them, which is sad. Prisons should do what they can for everyone.
But “Not guilty by reason of insanity” - letting murderers get mental health treatment, then run free - is itself a totally insane policy.

Courts there still consider mental illness at trial and at sentencing. It just can't erase accountability for violent crime.
