ROME (2005–2007) was television on an absurd scale. Season 1 cost around $100 million, with a five-acre Cinecittà set recreating the Forum, and HBO still ended it after two seasons. We deserved to see that story play out further.

HANNIBAL left Will and Hannibal’s fate hanging after that cliffhanger ending. THE OA was canceled after revealing a completely new reality. SANTA CLARITA DIET ended with Joel’s fate still unresolved.
