They are resmed bipap machines like the article said he promised, which are non invasive ventilators.

Three weeks after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he had obtained more than 1,000 ventilators to help California hospitals treating patients infected with the coronavirus, the governor’s office says none of the promised ventilators have been received by hospitals cnn.it/3cnfWWF

“Don’t jump to intubation.” — Dr Caputo

Everyone keeps saying we need ventilations. Crazy to think this could make their condition worse. Anything to be done from just quickly sticking people on ventilators?
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 16 апр. 2020 г.
A mask or nose “ventilator” with moderately increased oxygen % will help. This is common in hospitals. Intubation, where a tube is jammed down your throat under sedation & you’re fed high pressure, pure oxygen for several days to weeks is questionable.

I am a medical resident in Boston and we are still overwhelmed. We have had to significantly expand our ICU capacity across the city and the cases continue to increase. Patients who are mechanically ventilated are often on the ventilator for weeks before being extubated.
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 16 апр. 2020 г.
Roughly what is the survival rate of intubated patients? I’m hearing 10% to 20%. Is this overly pessimistic?

My wife is getting furloughed and she works for one of the biggest hospitals in Oklahoma. People that usually saturate hospitals are staying home and doctors aren’t admitting patients that can safely go home.

How is reverse summon going. Especially now that covid kinda delayed development?
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 16 апр. 2020 г.
We’re working super hard on getting traffic lights & stops released. Reverse summon (auto park) will be part of the core Autopilot software upgrade for FSD later this year.

Yes, definitely in California; where we have avoided the worst. Not in NYC, Boston, Detroit, New Orleans, where they truly are overwhelmed.

5/ Underuse of frantically-built capacity seems universal. Even @ NYC, Javits Ctr & Navy hospital ship mostly empty wapo.st/34CYPxk Why? Combo of “where did all the other pts go?” & hospitals have improvised (2 pts in ICU built for 1; Covid pts in ORs & recovery rooms)...
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 16 апр. 2020 г.
We are hearing almost all hospital ICUs have excess capacity. In some cases, 60% empty.

"A Japanese health ministry source suggested the drug was not as effective in people with more severe symptoms. “We’ve given Avigan to 70 to 80 people, but it doesn’t seem to work that well when the virus has already multiplied,” the source told the Mainichi Shimbun."
USE EARLY!
Elon Musk

Does seem that early use is wise. Solving late stage C19 probably requires two or three mechanisms of action.

It’d be so cool to do a tour of Hawthorne vs Boca Chica and see the differences in philosophies between early SpaceX vs current. Boca Chica is just a giant playground / test bed, which is cool!

It’s insane how quick SN4 is coming together. It makes sense when you build a factory AROUND your rockets (not vice versa), cool to see mass manufacturing taking an early lead in development vs one off prototyping. I hope when it’s closer to done I can get a tour from you 😉
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 16 апр. 2020 г.
Production is by *far* the hard part. That’s why I’m not super worried about early Starship failures. Initial serial numbers are suboptimal, so would be lawn ornaments if they survived. That said, as lawn ornaments go, they’re pretty sweet …

Will SN4 hop to 20 km or just 150 m if the pressure tests and static fire goes well?
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 16 апр. 2020 г.
SN4 won’t get flaps, so can only do flights with engine on. Just did a reset this week on flap, actuator & static aero design. Either SN5 or SN6 will get flaps.

I have great respect for anyone who gets a rocket to orbit! It’s very hard. I’m spending crazy hours on Starship design/production. It is truly an honor to work with such great engineers. SN4 is almost done 😀
