You don't form massive sheet steel skins. You'd make it the same way you make spiral-wound pipe; you'd just slowly adjust the diameter.
Spiral winding would be perfect - they could really churn these starships out that way, and each one would have a flawless mirror finish.

Spiral-winding is great for uniform thickness. We used that for the Hyperloop vacuum tunnel. However, Starship skin thickness will vary considerably according to loads.

The hopper most likely will not, indeed. The actual starship however most probably will ;p

I have a lot of questions, final one, will future Starship/SH designs look more like the originals ITS designs or are there mostly plans to just scale up the current design and maybe add vacuum optimised nozzles? And thoughts on in-orbit construction?

Starship test vehicle under assembly will look similar to this illustration when finished. Operational Starships would obv have windows, etc.

Now that we have you here, the Raptor engines on the hopper base, mockups or the real deal?
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 5 янв. 2019 г.
Engines currently on Starship hopper are a blend of Raptor development & operational parts. First hopper engine to be fired is almost finished assembly in California. Probably fires next month.

What if everytime a civilisation inside a simulation creates an A.I
its just making the next simulation... And this is how the universe expands, each simulation starting with a big bang.....
Or am I just high?
