I had been considering writing something along these lines myself. I'm surprised how many people are so eager to see @elonmusk brought low. I admire him.
Popular Mechanics@PopMech· 16 окт. 2018 г.In Defense of @ElonMusk: The Tesla and SpaceX maestro is under attack for bad tweets, production woes, and strange behavior. But we need people who take risks. We need people who try.

Thanks John, really admire you too! I think you’re one of the best engineers ever. Hope you return to working on rockets one day.

What about those who have EAP and order FSD (like post delivery)?
Would the new chip come with the FSD upgrade? Or be a separate thing
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 16 окт. 2018 г.
The FSD upgrade is the Tesla computer with our NN chip

Cool! Have you guys decided on pricing for those who *didn't* order full self-driving?
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 16 окт. 2018 г.
I believe it’s $5k

Aspirational timeline for the new chip?
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 16 окт. 2018 г.
~6 months before it is in all new production cars. No change to sensors. This is simple replacement of the Autopilot computer. Will be done free of charge for those who ordered full self-driving.

How much of a difference would the new Tesla chip make?
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 16 окт. 2018 г.
Somewhere between 500% & 2000%

Tesla deploys massive new Autopilot neural net in v9, impressive new capabilities, report says electrek.co/2018/10/15/tes… by @fredlambert
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 16 окт. 2018 г.
To be clear, actual NN improvement is significantly overestimated in this article. V9.0 vs V8.1 is more like a ~400% increase in useful ops/sec due to enabling integrated GPU & better use of discrete GPU.

What is the processing power on Tesla’ side with this? The analysis suggests that it’s quite big.
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 15 окт. 2018 г.
This is without the Tesla NN computer. Per my public comments, that will give the car an extra order of magnitude.

Works best if you play games full screen & use steering wheel scroller balls for control
