What’s the biggest bottleneck now? Mechanical issues? Susceptibility to weather? Range constraints? What can realistically be done with Starship to improve upon that?
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 3 окт. 2020 г.
All of that and more. We’re doing a broad review of launch site, propulsion, structures, avionics, range & regulatory constraints this weekend. I will also be at the Cape next week to review hardware in person.

And even more to launch a fleet of starships. You have to get to the point where rocket launches are about as routine as airplanes flying, right?

Do you have an update on the October Starship presentation if it's still happening in October?
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 2 окт. 2020 г.
Oh yeah, Starship update coming in about 3 weeks. The design has coalesced. What is presented will actually be what flies to orbit as V1.0 with almost no changes.

Brownsville is quite far south, so probably 3 months or so for good connectivity — needs several more Starlink launches. I’m using it at the little house I rent in the area. Definitely not good there yet.

The initial starlink speeds are really impressive, the sub-20ms latency is just an icing on the cake
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 2 окт. 2020 г.
Average latency will improve as more satellites launch (directly above you more frequently) & more ground stations are deployed. As we’re able to put more ground stations on roofs of server centers, legacy Internet latency will be zero.

And ultimately this upgrade will result into cutting the number of refuelling flights to 4 instead of 8 which would be a huge improvement!
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 2 окт. 2020 г.
Probably 5 or 6 with an optimized tanker, although filling up the ship in orbit isn’t required for Mars, so 4 is possible
