“Copper when you can, optics when you must” is the AI version of “Switch you can, route when you must.”
Except there will be much more of the “must” - i.e. optics - over time with AI as clusters grow inexorably larger.

Liquid-cooling allows for a *much* denser layout, allowing for more copper/GPU, but there is still a shocking amount of optics needed
