False. The German economy leading up to and during WW2 was extremely state-directed. Indeed, to such a degree that it greatly undermined the war effort. WW1 Germany was head & shoulders better.
Government in general is incredibly inefficient. It is the DMV at scale. Only when you have two DMVs competing does the battle seem close.
The American economy, in contrast, was far less state-controlled and pivoted immediately from consumer goods to hyper efficient output of war materiel. By 1945, the annualized peak American capitalist-managed weapon tonnage output was higher than the cumulative tonnage of state-managed Japan or Germany.
