Several pockets of 20 to 30 people all off their heads. A number of them with pants barely on. Zombies. The walking dead. Cops observing the proceedings from 100 feet away.

You could literally film a Walking Dead episode unedited in downtown SF.
This is where San Francisco politics leads and Twitter was exporting this self-destructive mind virus to the world.
With some exceptions, other tech companies are still doing so.
Evil in guise of good.

The first time I visited SF at 18 the city felt magical. It had its rough around the edges spots. But so do all big cities. The center of the city now is apalling. Any official not spending every waking moment trying to fix it should go.

.@elonmusk open-sourcing the Twitter algorithm is not only a promise kept. It’s setting an example for other Big Tech companies. How many will rise to the challenge? How many fear transparency because they can’t publicly defend what the algorithm does?
Elon Musk

They know they cannot defend what their algorithm actually does, so they will keep it closed

Agreed, we have reached this point, be optimistic about the future but skeptic about popes in coats
Trung Phan@TrungTPhan· 1. Apr. 2023Our default for images of famous people or disaster scenes should soon be “eh, it’s probably AI” (until proven otherwise).
And that’s honestly not a bad thing. We need more online skepticism.
I wrote more on Pope Coat, MidJourney and AI art here:

This is most of the recommendation code. In the coming weeks, we will open source literally everything that contributes to showing a tweet, such that the output can be at least roughly approximated.

If the West continues on its current trajectory, then people will be dumber, fatter, more mentally disordered, and less moral than they currently are. Yes.

NEWS: Twitter might work on letting users see a detailed view of how the algorithm “weighs” their account.
If badly weighed by the algo, (ie toxicity score is high) users would have transparency into the score and ability to get into good standing.
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 1. Apr. 2023
Avoiding dystopian outcomes is not easy.
The intent is not for the algorithm to be some judgy moral arbiter, but rather that it do its best to inform & entertain.
Trying to maximize unregretted user-minutes seems like the right objective.
