How will lunar starship refuel? It needs to go back to Earth orbit, and then get refueled by multiple tankers to do that round trip each time right? Can’t make methane on the moon sans a large cow farm, right? 😂

Starship propellant is ~78% oxygen, so an O2 plant on the moon would be enough. Otherwise, we could brute-force it with tankers to low Earth orbit. That’s probably faster.

1) If all humans stood in a circle, it would be way bigger than the moon's orbit. 2) If we all stood together as a crowd, we'd fit in NYC. 3) If we all stood stacked, we'd fit in a 1km cube. 4) If you removed the empty space in human atoms, we'd all fit in an M&M.

There’s a lot of frozen CO2 & H2O on Mars. Heating the planet will densify the atmosphere. It’s solvable.

Why fp32 for dojo? Will you be leveraging the same chip for in-car inference?
Elon Musk
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 25. Aug. 2020
Very different computers are needed for training vs inference. FSD is mostly Int8, but Dojo is de facto FP32 (feels like FP32, but actually FP16 with boring bits truncated) so we don’t need to rewrite all the training software. It should work almost immediately.

Nvidia is now worth more than Intel + AMD combined. That's the market's way of saying: x86 is a legacy architecture. The workload of the future is SIMULATION. Light -> raytracing Physics -> n-body, CFD AI -> neural nets ..and these will run on GPUs.

Not exactly GPUs for NN. Lots of cores optimized for dot products with fast local memory & super high bandwidth between cores & efficient liquid cooling. Compiler needs to be optimized too.

Yeah. Occasional flights from land are ok, but frequent (daily) flights probably need ~30km / 18 miles clear area for noise.

Hey @elonmusk you said we’d get more Super Chargers. There has been none built since March 2018 in Ireland. I know we’re a small Island with 6m people on it (including Northern Ireland ...), but there are lots of Tesla’s here. Could you please sort this?

Nobody had any idea how catastrophic the mother of all short squeeze was going to be a couple of years ago. Least of all the Shorts. Thought the worse would be $600-$700 not $2,100. Not even sure if this is the end of the squeeze or the beginning. Thanos-like annihilation. #Tesla

1/ Why does Musk keep hinting at his excitement for an electric jet? In the past he has said that electric flight starts to get interesting once you hit 400wh/kg

Odessy is a self-propelled semi-submersible mobile spacecraft launch platform converted from a mobile drilling rig The picture there is a Zenit-3SL rocket that Sea Launch used to roll out of the hanger on deck, to a launch mount. Sea Launch was cool.

Russia will restore the #SeaLaunch cosmodrome, said the Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov today at the Army-2020 forum. According to him, the preliminary calculations showed that the restoration will cost about 35 billion rubles (ca $450 million).
