When someone I know to be smart and knowledgeable says something that seems off base and wrong, then I try to assume there's some part of their ideas that I'm not understanding.
So help me out here, @JoelSercel.
My notion is that Martian cities, at the first Martian cities,

Joel C. Sercel, PhD@JoelSercel· 25. Apr. 2023@elonmusk @paulg On this Elon, I think you are 100% wrong. You need to move the same amount of mass to make a Mars habitat and you can't get 1 g on Mars, which may be needed for multigenerational human life.
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 12. Feb. 2026
You need to get mass from a substrate, like the Moon or Mars, to grow a major civilization, which obviously requires vast amounts of mass.
It is extremely inefficient to keep moving the mass out of some planetary gravity well to grow and the asteroid belt is too far away and too spread out.
Once you have Von Neumann machines like Optimi on a major mass substrate, they can convert that local mass to civilization very efficiently.

Individualism outperformed clannishness because it enabled the efficient cooperation of larger groups - the nation, or even all of Christendom, rather than the clan. But the step from “wider walls” to “no walls at all” turns individualism from a strength into an immune disorder.

Fanaticism rebrands itself every few generations in Europe: catholic inquisition -> fascist squads -> today’s speech commissars. The thread is always anti-reason and anti-freedom. Common sense is the ultimate heresy there.

I asked ChatGPT and Grok: I want to wash my car, and the car wash is 50m away. Should I walk or drive?
Grok: Drive because the car literally needs to be at the car wash to get washed.
ChatGPT: Walk!
ChatGPT is so dumb.

Everything follows from symmetry, except asymmetry or maybe even that too.

This equation reveals that every continuous symmetry in nature, a change you can make to a system without affecting its physical laws, brings about a conservation law. In simple terms, if the universe does not react to a certain change in perspective, it

Why do we want this? Modern compilers are extremely efficient. Having human readable code as a record of what is done is surely a good thing?
Dustin@r0ck3t23· 12. Feb. 2026Elon Musk thinks coding dies this year.
Not evolves. Dies.
By December, AI won’t need programming languages. It generates machine code directly. Binary optimized beyond anything human logic could produce. No translation. No compilation. Just pure execution.

Ramanujan's formula for pi gives the accurate value of pi up to 6 decimal places, but this is only the first term in an infinite series.
This number alone is sufficient to calculate the circumference of the Earth with a maximum error of just 1 meter.
It is to be noted that
