I've heard if you took any healthy person off the street and put them on a ventilator, they'd likely have major life-threatening complications after a week or so. Apparently not to be taken lightly, this step.

Vast majority of “ventilators” are not intratracheal, but, yes, jamming a pipe down a patient’s throat & driving in high pressure, pure oxygen is definitely not how we evolved! My personal choice would be mask with moderate pressure at ~50% O2.
