SpaceX really said one day "oh yeah lets just, mm hotstage because yes", and in couple months designed the ring, built different versions, tested it, literally stacked it on the booster like LEGOs and worked perfectly

This is why SpaceX is where they are, they just...do it and see what happens.
No one else dares to take such risks and it's really unfortunate
