I’ve always wondered what would be the motivation of the entity running the simulation be? Is it just purely for entertainment?

For the same reason we run simulations: to observe interesting outcomes.
That’s why the most interesting outcome, especially if ironically entertaining, is the most likely: all the boring simulations were terminated.
