The legacy blue checkmark system was corrupt to the core and I despise those who want it back

Gotta love Community Notes for doing this callout on the WHO that a lot of "fact checking" organizations would be too afraid to touch.

DogeDesigner@cb_doge· 16 août 2023𝕏 is working on a feature which will allow users to see their account status.
The users will be able to check if they are shadowbanned or not & will also get to know the reason for the same.
Elon Musk
@elonmusk · 17 août 2023
Sorry it’s taking so long. There are so many layers of “trust & safety” software that it often takes us hours to figure out who, how and why an account was suspended or shadowbanned.
A ground up rewrite is underway that simplifies the X codebase dramatically.

super lame to see accounts being run by their PR dept, chief of staff or similar.
it helps their brand too - authenticity builds trust because it cannot be manufactured convincingly

@elonmusk · 17 août 2023

Has anyone done the math on whether banning plastic bags at stores actually helps save the environment?
Many people reuse them as garbage bags etc. Now they have to buy special garbage bags that use more plastic.
The other types of reusable bags now sold anywhere from 25c to $5

@elonmusk · 17 août 2023
There is no good reason to ban plastic bags or straws in any country where trash is not dumped in the water

There're few who can deliver both great AI research and charismatic talks. OpenAI Chief Scientist @ilyasut is one of them.
I watched Ilya's lecture at Simons Institute, where he delved into why unsupervised learning works through the lens of compression.

My unpopular (and likely unenforceable) take is that public officials should either tweet themselves from the account that's in their name or not use it at all. If you want your press secretary tweeting for you, she can use the White House account.
