Having electric brakes avoids the complexity of a hydraulic system: no need to rout plumbing all around the car
Zack@BLKMDL3· 4 sept. 2026Cybercab uses individual actuators on each brake caliper. Zero brake lines or fluid.
This probably makes the unboxed process possible/easier because there are no brake lines running throughout the length of the vehicle, super neat.

The Cybercab motor uses no rare earth metals, but maintains the same range!
This was extremely hard to achieve.
Sawyer Merritt@SawyerMerritt· 4 sept. 2026The Cybercab drive unit features a simplified bar-wound stator and lubrication system, plus an overall architecture that enables fully automated, sub-10-second cycle times.
It is 18% smaller, 25% lighter and more efficient than other top performing electric vehicle drive units.

The Tesla Cybercab doesn't have ANY brake fluid. It is the first production vehicle to have a brake-by-wire system.
Electronic actuators are responsible for the clamping pressure, rather than hydraulic fluid that you see in traditional vehicles.
This system improves efficiency since the brake pads can fully disengage. They can go entirely off or on. It also enables Tesla to fine-tune the braking to be as smooth as possible.
PLUS, when the car is built with the unboxed process, Tesla doesn't need to run any brake lines, everything is seamless.

In addition to making it autonomous, I’d recommend deleting all control surfaces in favor of gimbaling the motors and replace the horizontal stabilizer with a small wing (like the Piaggio). This will significantly improve range.
The battery also needs to double as structure for

An important next step is making it autonomous.

Anders Forslund of Heart Aerospace joins @Jason to show off their electric plane, which used up just $5 worth of power for a full 20-minute trip.
Could this change short-haul flights? What locations would these flights best be used

I turn 50 today. This is a message to my kids but I offer it to you in case any of it rings useful.
I was born in Sri Lanka in 1976 in a country that, at the time, was about to enter a decades long civil war. My father was able to get stationed at the Sri Lankan High Commission

I am not exaggerating, there are Unsupervised Cybercabs without steering wheels or pedals all over Austin, TX right now at almost every corner.
It is SO BEAUTIFUL on the road. The glossy gold (first time seeing it) is stunning in the sun. I also LOVE how massive the wheels look.
This is literally the future. I’m in @Robotaxi heaven right now.
