1) It’s illegal to build apartments in 74% of San Francisco today.
2) 54% of existing San Francisco homes are in buildings that would be illegal to build today.

This illustrates why the term “homeless” is misleading. The vast majority of those on the streets are there due to severe drug addiction and/or mental illness.
The issue not that they got a little behind in their mortgage payments and would be back on their feet if someone just offered them a job.
